Body of LiesThe DVD movie Body of Lies stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Roger Ferris and Russell Crowe as Ed Hoffman in this terrorist movie.  Ferris is a CIA operative in Iraq trying to track down a terrorist called Al Saleem (Alon Aboutboul), who is responsible for the mastermind of a wave of terrorist attacks.  Ferris is the agencys man on the ground, moving from place to place, scrambling to stay ahead of ever-shifting events.

At the other end of that real-time link is the CIAs Ed Hoffman, strategizing events from thousands of miles away watching Ferris from a satellite link.

In Jordan, Ferris meets Hani Salaam (Mark Strong), head of the Jordanian General Intelligence Department (GID) who tells Ferris to never lie to him.  He teams up with Ferris in order to get Al Saleem or did they?

The movie was action packed.  It was your typical terrorist movie.  Lots of explosion, people dying, and you did not know who you could trust.  I would give it a 4 rating.

Alpha Protocol - New Video Game Release

Alpha ProtocolAlpha Protocol is an upcoming third-person action role-playing video game, developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by SEGA.  The game will be released in February 2009 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

The game revolves around the adventures of rookie CIA field agent Michael Thorton.  After a mission goes awry, Michael Thorton is cut off from all of his contacts and betrayed by his superiors and is being hunted by the United States government.  In response, Michael uses the ”Alpha Protocol”, though it is normally reserved for more senior agents, and begins to operate undercover, to uncover the conspiracy.

The tools at the player’s disposal include numerous firearms, hand to hand combat using American Kenpo and spy gadgets.  Players also earn Advancement Points, which can be placed into any of the ten different skills in the game.  These skills will increase Thorton’s ability to use certain weapons and grant different abilities to him.  These abilities are free to use, but require a “cooldown” period before they can be used again.

Alpha Protocol has a hub structure, in which Thorton must utilize safe houses in each of his hub cities in order to lay low between missions.  From a safe house, Thorton can change clothing, access a weapons locker, telephone contacts, and attempt missions.

Thornton will be encountering different characters throughout his missions and depending on his specific reactions to them will determine the bigger picture in the long run so who he aligns with will be particularly tricky since he does not want to let a bad guy go free!

“Max Payne” DVD Movie of the Week

Max PayneThe DVD movie of the week was Max Payne with Mark Wahlberg.  Other actors included Chris O’Donnell, Beau Bridges, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nelly Furtado, and Mila Kunis.

In New York City, Detective Max Payne is a 3 year old veteran working in the Cold Case Unit.  He is a maverick cop with little regard for rules and nothing left to lose.  Hell-bent on revenge, he is determined to track down those responsible for the brutal murder of his wife and child but his obsessive investigation takes him on a nightmarish journey where dark fantasy collides with stark reality.

The movie was action packed from beginning to end.  It had a great storyline in that Payne’s family was murdered and he was hell-bent in finding the murderers.  Other people were being murdered by a wing-shadowed figure.  I would give it 4 stars.

Save the Planet—Keep Your Car Clean

Save the Planet—Keep Your Car Clean

The majority of people can agree that conservation is more important now than ever before. With that in mind, it can feel like we’re on the verge of having to give up our way of life in order to have a planet to live on at all. But living in a more sustainable way doesn’t mean we have to give up all the luxuries that we enjoy now. Simple things like washing our cars might seem like a frivolous waste of water, but there are ways to enjoy the luxuries of our current lives with the more green-minded tactics of tomorrow.

In this particular instance, you can always use a waterless car wash. This will keep your car looking its best without having to use a tremendous amount of water. Whether you’re interested in helping conserve the world’s water source or you’re just interested in saving money on your water bill, you can actually achieve both by using a waterless car wash. Purchase for yourself or a family member, and you might just start a larger trend in your family of conservation and eco-friendly living.

“Third Wish” by Robert Fulghum

Third WishThe book Third Wish was written by Robert Fulghum.  Fulghum was born on June 4, 1937.  He is an American writer primarily writing short essays.  He is an accomplished painter and sculptor and enjoys playing the guitar and mando-cello.  Fulghum has taught drawing, painting, and philosophy at the Lakeside School in Seattle.

The publisher summarizes the story as the following:  in fairy tales, the third wish is the last one left when the first wish was foolish, and the second wish was used to undo the first wish.  Now the remaining wish must be used wisely and well–with the help of co-conspirators.

The main thread of Third Wish–like Ariadne’s string guiding Theseus into the labyrinth with the Minotaur–begins at a table on a terrace on the Greek Island of Crete, winds its way into the center and back out to the same table, passing through Greece, Japan, France, England, and Seattle.  Its main characters are Alice, Max-Pol, Aleko, Wonko, Zenkichi, Polydora, Alice-Alice, and Dog.

Woven into the fabric of the novel are cultural history, art, philosophy, archeology, poetry, theater and music.  The mode of the novel is contained in the words Slowly, Surprise, and Witness.  More than anything else, Third Wish is a long love story–not in the usual sense–but the story of people who love life and will go to great lengths to find a flourishing Way onward.
